The Apistogramma Cacatuoides is also known as a Dwarf Cockatoo Cichlid or The Crested Dwarf Cichlid, it prefers a planted tank or tanks with lots of rocks and driftwood. They are a peaceful dwarf cichlid that can be kept in a community tank, but when it comes to spawning they can become territorial a relatively big tank is needed. The Cockatoo Cichlid grows to 7.5cm and has a nice blood red dorsal fin, and in some cases an orange dorsal fin. This really depends on the species it is and wheres it from. The most popular variety of the Cacatuoides is either Super Red or Double Red.

Probably the easiest Apistogramma to keep. Although because of that, many people just buy them on impulse, forgetting they are still dwarf cichlids which need a mature aquarium and varied diet. Quite shy at first, but look fantastic during courtship with some amusing displays between males, so keep at least a 'two females per male' ratio. Look best in leaf littered aquaria in my opinion, with soft water conditions, although I have seen them healthy in neutral conditions.
